Strong Personal Traits for a UX Career
Two lines of thoughts to consider regarding whether you’re meant for a career in user experience.
First, you may be a great fit if you:
- Are excited to come up with solutions for difficult problems
- Get satisfaction by making peoples lives easier or enabling them to achieve something
- Appreciate something that works well or looks beautiful
- Easily connect with others feelings and can put yourself “in their shoes”
- Have some creativity and enjoy expressing it

Secondly, however, I would suggest not focusing on “if you are a fit”. Rather, consider if it’s something that you want to do and that would bring you meaning. A lot of UI and UX work can be learned and improved with study and practice. People often make the mistake in thinking they have to be a “creative” or hold other attributes that immediately sets them up for a career in UX. I would argue that many parts of UX are learned tactics and applications that you can become proficient in if you apply yourself.
With or Without The Traits, You Can have a UX Career
So, if you resonate with anything from the first point you may have some attributes that serve you well to build a UX career. But know that if it’s a career you are deeply interested in, there’s no limitation or missing component you have that would prevent you from jumping into this exciting field.
Cheers to your great UX career!
